Yeah. He didn't know about her until like a year ago when she was already dead. It's a whole mess of a story, involving treason and murder and cavaliers and revenants.
[Ianthe's bone fingers slipped into golden curls.]
Ask me some other day about that. I don't want to get depressed.
Necromancy originated with John. It's different for him than it is for the rest of us. Best I can describe it as he just wings it while the rest of us need to be precise and articulate. Mathematical.
[It was so frustrating.]
By that definition, he can do anything but he's more of a generalist/jack-of-all-trades.
The rest of us fall under one of the three disciplines - flesh, bone, and spirit. Each House tends to favor one over the others though we're trained in all. [Some more than others.]
As Scion of the Third and in order to carry out my sister's con, I had to master flesh magic whether I wanted to or not, because it was expected for the Crown Princess. It was all show to me. My true field of study has always been as a liminal mage - an occultism. I studied Resurrection Theory. It's a very taboo path of study. And that is Spirit. I'm dual-specialized in both Flesh and Spirit.
Harrow mastered Bone and is shit at the other disciplines. She just has raw talent that's frankly unreal and unfair.
[ She gently brushes her fingers back and forth in thought, as Ianthe speaks, about the differences between John, Ianthe, Harrow and all the houses. ]
... I suspect that is because John is more like myself, than he is like you. He is containing a Spirit, not inherited ability. [ Her fingers then stop as she goes in thought. ]
But this is all so fascinating, forgive my questions. You seem to work on a premise of something that enables us to make the Bonds at all.
Yes, I learned that recently. [Don't mind the grumble in that. It's a sore subject.]
There's a lot of nuance within necromancy and further delineation within each discipline.
[And then Ianthe's thoughts swerved as the reference to Alecto had her thinking about that conversation with John.]
John told me something interesting the other day when we were taking about Pre-Res Earth culture and my interactions with this from Earth here. I already knew the Third House used to be called Neptune, but what Kohn told me is that the planet was originally named after a sea god. Neptune was a mythological sea god from before the Great Resurrection.
Well, if you come from the place of Neptune, a Sea God-Spirit. And I am Second-Child of the Sea-Father, which perhaps is our version of Neptune, it seems.
[ She's so pleased with herself, and not at all serious. ]
And you are Princess of the Third House, the House of Neptune.
Then you are my Princess, not John's.
[ And since Ianthe has more than earned enough to see her being ridiculous and teasing, by now: ] If it makes you feel more familiar, I can be very dry, make overtures of power without considering how anyone should eat, and take up a title of God, if that would be more familiar?
[ She burrowed in, inhaling against her neck, squeezing her back in turn with such happiness. So much she think she could burst apart. ]
I think kisses, every morning. That will be a good start. [ Hmm, yes. ] and waking up in your arms, definitely. [ and she lowers her voice to a whisper because she's trying ok but still, well, her. ] Then perhaps that wonderful clever thing you do your lips in - ah, my secret places.
Ianthe! [ She huffs. ] But I suppose it is not so bad, I got asked into one of those displays with Sweeney and he had to spank and cane me. I think I finally understood those little things you wear, everyone could see everything.
It is a shame, I think the ones that you have a very sweet, I thought of making some for myself. I am only really used to them well - when it is menses, that sort of thing.
[ It's not immediate, but she takes a second, to sort of piece together that is Ianthe's sister. Somewhere in the corner of her eyes, the pull of her mouth.
No wonder. Having that against her skin must have been lovely. But I suppose as Princesses it would not be so hard for you to change those garments as many times as you need.
[ Trips and falls over in the iron age nonsense. ]
I am still learning to make lace, here. It is not a skill we have at home, but I know the tailor does have very fine cotton. So fine as to be sheer, and it is threaded with silk. I could try and fetch some for you, and make up something like it?

Is that the different types you have with - the spirits - not that is that, I understand - [ just the way she understands the different disciplines. ]
- You are good with the matter of skin and flesh. But Revered Daughter Harrowhawk is best with Os-ose... Os-..... bones.
[ Frick. ]
And... I suspect John is the best of... all of them? As he is 'God'?

[Ianthe opened her eyes.] Isn't that something?

So you are my Princess after all!
[ More and more giggling at her silly little idea, after all. ]
no subject
Your princess?

I'd rather be yours anyway. So then, how would you like me to worship you?
no subject

Ianthe grinned teasingly.]
I don't think they're so secret anymore.
no subject
[ She aimed a poking tickling fingers into her side. ]
Someone saw us, by the way, I heard them gossiping the other week when they thought I could not hear.
no subject
Did they now? [She wasn't bothered by it at all.] At least they got a nice show.
no subject
Ianthe! [ She huffs. ] But I suppose it is not so bad, I got asked into one of those displays with Sweeney and he had to spank and cane me. I think I finally understood those little things you wear, everyone could see everything.
no subject
... you talking about undergarments? I don't often wear them here. The quality just isn't what I'm used to.
no subject
It is a shame, I think the ones that you have a very sweet, I thought of making some for myself. I am only really used to them well - when it is menses, that sort of thing.
no subject
I wish I could show you some of the lingerie-- Wait. I can.
[Ianthe projected via the psychic connection a really attractive image of Coronabeth in some deep purple lingerie. Fuck, her sister was hot.]
no subject
But goodness, she was beautiful. ]
Spirits - that lace is so fine.
no subject
That's just one of a dozen different styles. Corona loved her lingerie.

In your size. For you to wear for me. [Only for Ianthe.] I'd love that.
no subject
You are spoiling me again, I am trying to make you something nice, that you can have that is like from your home.
no subject
Maybe both?
no subject
Well, I suppose that is a little better then. I can make something matching.
[ She perches again in thought. ]
One of the lace makers will have some spare cuts from the larger pieces they make, I think.

[Ianthe always just ordered it and it was delivered.]
